Catherine Swan’s Happy Trees
![]() ![]() |
In a time before computer games there was such a
thing as childhood imagination where, among other things, technicolor paper birds sing from the
branches of smiling trees.
Enter Sydney artist Catherine Swan’s latest venture for children: Happy Trees. With their seeds planted firmly in classic fairytales and refreshing whimsy (think Wizard of Oz and Tolkien’s Ents from Middle Earth) Swan’s Happy Trees are a beautiful, and utterly unique, addition to any nursery, child’s bedroom or playroom. The artist deftly puts these pieces together with images from vintage picture books, handsnipped items from her own stamp collection and swatches of retro atlases – ensuring each of the 28 paper birds huddled around the branches of the screen printed tree is endearingly naive, colourful and most importantly – absolutely one-of-a-kind. Each ‘Happy Tree’ retails for $700, framed in a limed wood frame. Dimensions: 730 mm width x 730 mm height Limited edition of 50 Commissions welcome using your childs favourite books.
